You turn on the stove, it's glowing red.
Without a fire, it boils the water inside the pot.
The surface is flat, with no signs of flames;
Just repeated circles, marking the spot.
You turn on the stove, it's glowing red.
Turned too high, the water boils.
The bubbles expand and bump into each other.
Welling up and releasing pressure, I watch it
Spill over, and sizzle on the glowing circle.
You turn and look at me,
With it reflecting off your eyes.
Screaming without sound,
Crying without tears,
Seizing me without arms.
I reach out and switch it off,
I test the surface, withdraw too late,
Branded with your unspoken words.
You turn on the stove again, it's glowing red.
